How to Check Building Product Certification
Start with the project and destination-market requirement, then work backward to the applicable regulation, standard, certificate, test record and supporting documentation.
1. Identify the compliance requirement
Confirm the destination market, project specification, applicable regulation and required standard or assessment route.
2. Verify the certification record
Check the issuer, certificate or report number, status, scope, product model and named manufacturer or factory.
3. Match the test or approval to the product
Confirm that the tested configuration, code edition, limitations and conditions of use match the item being purchased.
4. Separate sustainability from approval
EPD, FSC, PEFC and LEED documentation may support project requirements but are not blanket product approvals.
